Connect Shopify to AI — Shopify MCP via Zylx
Connecting Shopify to Zylx Studio is a one-click OAuth flow. Zylx reads your products, collections, pages, blogs, orders, customers, themes, and store analytics, and assembles that data into your workspace's Business Brain. Zylx's MCP server then gives authorized AI clients — Claude, ChatGPT, or any MCP-compatible assistant — that Shopify context, plus around 40 approval-gated Shopify actions covering SEO fixes, product descriptions, redirects, image alt text and compression, and structured data.
Shopify is never wired directly to Claude or ChatGPT. Zylx sits in between as the MCP server: it maintains the context, exposes the tools, and holds every write behind a human approval queue.
How the connection is wired
Your store connects to Zylx Studio, not to an AI model. Zylx builds the Business Brain and the tool layer, and serves both over the Model Context Protocol to the AI clients you authorize. Revoke the connection and the whole chain goes dark.

How fresh is the data?
When an AI assistant asks a Shopify question, Zylx queries your store at that moment and stamps the answer with the time it was observed. Separately, a background sync refreshes provider data roughly twice an hour, with a fuller rebuild once a day. Nothing here is a real-time event stream — there are no Shopify webhooks in this path.
No Shopify action exists for, and Zylx cannot:
- Fulfil, edit or cancel orders
- Issue refunds or move money
- Adjust inventory quantities
- Create or edit customer records
What enters the Business Brain
Your catalog, content, customers, and sales become structured context in the Business Brain — what you sell, how it's organized, who buys, and how the store is performing. That context is refreshed automatically, so an AI assistant asking about your store reasons from current data, not a stale export.
The Business Brain is the persistent, structured context layer that Zylx Studio builds from every connection and keeps current automatically.
What AI assistants can do
Once you authorize an AI client over MCP, it can work with your store two ways — reading context, and proposing changes:
Read & analyze

Propose (never apply)
- SEO fixes — titles, meta descriptions, and heading issues

Around 40 Shopify actions exist, and every one of them is approval-gated. An AI assistant can propose; only a human can approve. Access happens over MCP — an authorized, workspace-scoped connection for Claude, ChatGPT, and other compatible clients. Setup differs by product: connect Claude or connect ChatGPT.
You stay in control
Writes are proposals, not commands. When an AI assistant suggests a change to your store, it lands in an approval queue where you see exactly what would change before anything happens. After an approved change is applied, Zylx re-verifies against the live store to confirm the change actually landed as described.
What disconnecting does
Disconnecting Shopify revokes Zylx's access to your store. Store context stops flowing into the Business Brain, and Shopify actions are no longer available to any AI client.
Example workflow
A hypothetical example of how an ecommerce operator might use this connection:

You ask Claude which product pages are underperforming. It reads store and search context from the Business Brain and identifies pages with traffic but weak titles and missing meta descriptions.

Claude proposes rewritten titles and descriptions for those pages — as pending changes, not live edits.

You review the proposals in the approval queue, edit one, approve the rest.

Does Shopify have MCP?
Shopify has its own MCP efforts aimed at developer and commerce use cases. Zylx's MCP server serves a different purpose: it exposes your store's business context — catalog, content, customers, performance — to the AI assistants you authorize, alongside approval-gated actions on your store.
Can Claude update my products?
Only through the approval queue. Claude can propose product changes — descriptions, SEO fixes, image alt text — but nothing touches your store until a human approves the proposal. Zylx then applies it and re-verifies against the live store.
Is giving AI access to my Shopify store safe?
Access is read-first, scoped to your workspace, and revocable at any time. AI assistants read context by default; every write is a proposal that waits for human approval. Disconnecting revokes access entirely.
Can ChatGPT analyze my Shopify sales?
